What is the Menopause?

The Menopause is something that happens naturally as our reproductive years come to an end.

This is usually a natural change due to a decrease in the hormones produced by the ovaries, and is said to occur 12 months after the final menstrual period. In the United Kingdom, menopause typically occurs between 49 and 52 years of age, but women may experience symptoms of the Perimenopause for up to 10 years before this.

Perimenopause is the period of time when menopausal symptoms start.

Your periods might become irregular, and your flow might alter. You may notice changes in your mood, worsening PMS, have more frequent headaches, vaginal dryness, worsening sleep or notice hot flushes.

For some women symptoms may not be too severe, for others it can be debilitating.

How we can help

We will try to help by discussing the symptoms you are experiencing to try and understand how they are impacting your daily living.

If necessary we may perform an ultrasound scan, especially if there are issues with your menstrual flow. We will come up with a plan with how best to treat your symptoms which may involve both hormonal or non-hormonal options. We are also the only providers on Jersey of the testosterone cream Androfeme.
