May Bourne

Midwife

My name is May Bourne and I have over 15 years of experience in midwifery. I began my midwifery career working within busy NHS maternity units in both York and Cambridge and moved to Jersey in 2016. Throughout my career, I have worked in a variety of birth settings (labour wards, birth centres and within community midwifery teams attending homebirths) and more recently have experience in midwifery management and as a Professional Midwifery Advocate. In 2025, I made the decision to become a self-employed private midwife which gives me a greater ability to support women with their individualised birth choices and empower them to navigate the modern-day maternity system. I am registered with both the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and Jersey Care Commission (JCC) and I am fully insured to provide antenatal and postnatal care in Jersey. Outside of work, I have two young children (both of whom were born at home) who keep me very busy!

Services offered

I currently offer private antenatal education services including group and one-to-one antenatal classes and hypnobirthing courses. I also teach antenatal breastfeeding preparation classes, biomechanics and active birth workshops, and offer 1:1 support in people’s homes including birth debriefs and birth planning. I offer impartial and evidence-based sessions with parents who want to learn more about their options or benefit from a second opinion. It is very important for women and their birth partners to have the knowledge and tools to get the best from the situation that they may find themselves in during labour and birth, and it is important for you to understand the implications of the choices you may be required to make – that’s where I come in!
